Review: Blutrina - Looney Fuckin' Grind

Well this is a first for me, a review of a grind album. Everyone knows grind, mostly because of the comedic element of it, the ultra short songs, kind of gritty production, almost comic vocals that have almost no lyrics but pig squeals and concentration on gore. Well, this album doesn't really fit in the stereotype of grind, apart from a bit shorter songs but still not too short.

The production of the album is surprisingly good, and does not really sound like noise anywhere in the length of the album. All instruments are heard, even the bass which isn't really sounding like a chain saw but it is still nicely put in the mix. The drums are perfect, the snare does not overpower all other elements and the bass drum is actually heard quite nicely, and it shows the measure to which the band went to have a professional sound on the album.

The songs themselves are great, they have a dynamic change in them, they have breakdowns and fast blistering parts with blast beats on them, they have it all, all the elements with which we associate grind to. The vocals are also superb, with a great variety of techniques used and not overuse of a single technique, and also the techniques are synced with the guitar riffs quite perfectly.

All in all, this is a bit of a atypical grind album but never the less the album is absolutely great.
