Review: Black Blood - Black Blood

I have heard a lot of heavy metal bands and their albums over the years, and there was always the lingering theme of them being similar or identical to some other bands I have heard in my youth like Iron Maiden predominantly. Not to say those albums were bad if they sounded like Iron Maiden but once you get that feel it is really hard to get rid of it. Black Blood is one band I personally haven't heard , but considering they are from Finland, and Finland has a lot of very good bands so they are really hard to keep track of.

On the first hearing of the album the sound is pretty aggressive, hard and fast paced. There is a lot of melodic influences in the songs as well as some classical heavy metal moments of similar riffs with double bass footing.

The sound quality is superb, the guitar tones are more similar to some thrash bands especially to some Metallica records (such as Ride The Lightning) and in the cases of solos and melodic parts is really clean sounding and even with heavy distortion is not muddy or compressed.

The overall sound of the record is interesting, not very innovative but it is not the point of the record. This record will not make a revolution in the heavy metal genre or make the band the next Iron Maiden, this is a record a band makes when they mature and are capable of making great songs and recording them professionally. All in all I would give this album 9/10.
